Scary Movie franchise is getting rebooted

After it was announced The Blair With Project is getting a reboot, it was revealed today that Paramount and Mirimax are rebooting the Scary Movie franchise, with Neal H. Moritz, the producer of the Fast & Furious, teaming up with Paramount to breathe new life into the series. 

The Scary Movie reimagining is slated to begin production in the fall of 2024 and is set to hit theaters in 2025. While no director or actors have been confirmed yet.

The popular franchise, first released in 2000, took aim at popular slasher films such as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Friday the 13th. And the franchise continued to take aim at other popular movies with the sequels that followed.

Despite mixed success for the subsequent films, the original Scary Movie was a box office sensation, grossing an impressive $278 million on a modest $19 million budget. 

The first two installments of the Scary Movie franchise, featuring Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans, were directed by the Keenen Ivory Wayans. The third and fourth films, released in 2003 and 2006 respectively, were directed by David Zucker. 

The latest addition to the series, Scary Movie V, which starred Simon Rex and Ashley Tisdale, was co-directed by Zucker and Malcolm D. Lee in 2013.
