A24 has unveiled the first trailer for their highly anticipated horror sequel MaXXXine, featuring the talented Mia Goth in the lead role. This film marks the final installment of Ti West's trilogy and MaXXXine picks up where X, West's 2022 horror flick, left off.
The story follows Maxine Minx, played by Goth, an aspiring adult film star whose dreams were shattered by Pearl, a bitter former actor who resented the young performers making movies on her property.
Goth has been a constant presence throughout the trilogy, while cast members have come and gone around her. The latest installment, MaXXXine, is no exception, as a fresh crop of talent including Elizabeth Debicki, Halsey, Kevin Bacon, and Giancarlo Esposito make their debut in the indie trilogy.
It promises to be a gripping murder mystery set in the glitz and glamour of 1980s Los Angeles. As Mazine strives for fame in the spotlight, the notorious Night Stalker killer terrorizes the city.
Drawing from actual events, the Night Stalker was a serial killer whose deeds claimed the lives of 13 individuals between 1984 and 1985. Richard Ramirez, the perpetrator behind these acts, instilled fear and panic across the Greater Los Angeles area and the San Francisco Bay during the mid-1980s.
Scheduled for release on July 5th, this film is among the array of A24 horror productions set to hit screens in 2024. Other notable titles in this lineup include Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow and the Eggers brothers The Front Room.
