Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later has just finished its filming in London and is on course for it's release on June 20th 2025 barring any setbacks. The movie will feature Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Charlie Hunman with Cillian Murphy returning in a surprising way as confirmed by Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman.
When asked whether Murphy is definitely returning, Rothman said: "Yes, but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way."
Plots details are still unknown but I am sure more details will be revealed soon.
Next month, Nia DaCosta will start filming the sequel to the new planned trilogy of movies, titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

In recent months, details have slowly emerged about upcoming zombie movie 28 Years Later, much to the delight of fans of the franchise. Directed by Danny Boyle and penned by returning writer Alex Garland, the movie stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jack O’Connell in lead roles. On Friday it got announced a release date has been penned in for June 20th, 2025.
The news was officially announced by Sony Pictures as they added the film to their domestic calendar for the upcoming year. It is still unclear which studio will handle its international release though. This isn't unfamiliar territory for the series, as 28 Weeks was released by 20th Century Fox in the UK and Fox Atomic in the US.
Cillian Murphy, known for his role as Jim in 28 Days Later, is serving as a producer for the upcoming film, but it's uncertain if he will reprise his role. For those unfamiliar with the character, Murphy's Jim was a bicycle courier who fell into a coma just before the outbreak of a contagious rage virus that originated from an infected chimpanzee.
Regarding future installments, there are reports that Nia DaCosta, known for The Marvels and Candyman, is in discussions to direct the second of the planned trilogy.
