Sarah Michelle Gellar Not Returning?

Sarah Michelle Gellar has said in a recent interview that she will not be reprising her role in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.

She had this to say:
I am dead.

My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity.

So I’m always the one telling her, ‘Well, that would happen, or that wouldn’t happen with those characters,’ so I do have kind of an unofficial job title''
As we know, just because someone is dead, doesn't mean they cannot return. Maybe something will be done to allow Sarah Michelle Gellar to return?

Freddie Prinze Jr Signs On

It has been confirmed that Freddie Prinze Jr has officially signed on for the new film coming out on July 18th, 2025.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is also in talks to return to her role, but it’s not confirmed yet.

So as it is, Freddie Prinze Jr. will star with Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King

Camila Mendes was originally set to join the cast but had to drop out because of scheduling issues.

Brandy Norwood Speaks

Brandy Norwood, one of the stars of the original movie, has recently spoken about reprising her role in the upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer.

In a recent interview, Brandy discussed her latest role in A24's The Front Room, and also had this to say as well.
I definitely have been in talks about seeing if I could be a part of it, the new 'I Know What You Did Last Summer.' That would be awesome. I didn't die, so I might as well come on back.
I think it is fair to say the legacy characters will be returning for this one!

New Film Confirmed For The I Know What You Did Last Summer Franchise

Sony Pictures has announced that a new addition to the I Know What You Did Last Summer series will be released next summer. The film will be directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson who is also co-writing the script alongside Sam Lansky, and Leah McKendrick

This movie franchise began in 1997 with the story of four friends who accidentally hit a pedestrian and decide to dump the body in the ocean, vowing to keep it a secret.

A year later, they start receiving mysterious messages about their secret, and one by one, they are killed by a mysterious figure with a hook. The movie was an instant hit when it was released, earning about $72 million in 1997.

The new film will release on July 18, 2025 and while not too much more is known right now, I will keep this page updated as and when new news about the movie arrives.
