A Quiet Place: Day One has set new records for the franchise and 2024 horror movies in its opening weekend

A Quiet Place: Day One, directed by Michael Sarnoski, has become the horror hit of 2024 so far after earning $53 million in its opening weekend in the U.S, while Internationally, it made an additional $45.5 million, totaling $98.5 million worldwide and setting a record for the highest-grossing horror movie of the year. 

This surpasses the previous record held by the South Korean film Exhuma, which earned $97.6 million globally and has also made it the best ever opening weekend for the franchise.

Horror movies have struggled a bit in 2024 so far, with the highest earners being Night Swim ($54.6 million), The First Omen ($53.8 million), and Tarot ($48.1 million). The movie has had pretty favorable reviews so far, with it currently sitting at a 6.8 rating on IMDB, and 85% score on RT

The first two movies in the franchise also proved to be very popular. A Quiet Place was a big hit, earning over $340 million worldwide with a current IMDB rating of 7.5 and a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A Quiet Place Part II, despite being delayed from its original March 2020 release due to the pandemic, still made nearly $300 million globally and has a current IMDB rating of 7.2 and a 91% approval rating on RT.
