Insidious (2010)
Insidious is about a family whose son falls into an unexplained coma, leading to a series of events, as the parents discover that their son’s spirit is trapped in a dark, mysterious realm, and they must find a way to rescue him.
This movie is packed with jump scares and dread, and I must admit this one actually surprised me a lot that it was PG-13 rated. [Insidious on IMDB]
A Quiet Place (2018)
Set in a world where deadly creatures hunt by sound, A Quiet Place follows a family struggling to survive in silence as they communicate through sign language and live in constant fear of making a noise.
The tension in this film comes from the constant threat of danger, so it offers a lot of suspense throughout [A Quiet Place on IMDB]
The Ring (2002)
The remake of the original Japanese horror movie is actually one of the better American remakes that has been done!
Not anywhere as good as the original mind you, but not too shabby!
It is about a cursed videotape that causes viewers to die seven days after watching it, and as a journalist investigates the mysterious deaths connected to the tape, she faces a race against time to solve the mystery before her own time runs out. [The Ring on IMDB]
The Others (2001)
In The Others, a mother and her two children live in a dark, isolated mansion that they believe is haunted, but as strange events unfold, the family begins to question what is real and what isn’t.
This one has a good twist ending, if a little predictable. [The Others on IMDB]
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Another one with a twist ending, and this one is probably the the most famous of all time.
I am sure you know already, but The Sixth Sense follows a young boy who can see and communicate with the dead, and the psychologist who tries to help him. 1999 was a decent year for horror!
I love re watching this one from time to time as it's definitely worth your time to catch things you missed previously! [The Sixth Sense on IMDB]

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
This film combines horror with some courtroom drama as it tells the story of a priest on trial for the death of a young woman during an exorcism.
It is filled with creepy flashbacks of the exorcism, and the tension builds as the truth behind the events is slowly revealed. [The Exorcism of Emily Rose on IMDB]
Mama (2013)
Two young sisters are found after being missing for five years, and as their new guardians try to help them adjust, they realize that Mama, the entity, is not ready to let them go.
This film is has some unsettling moments that's perfect for teens! [Mama on IMDB]
1408 (2007)
1408 is a hugely underrated horror movie and is one of my personal favorites.
It's about a skeptical author who writes about haunted places, who checks into a notorious hotel room that’s said to be cursed, but of course he doesn't believe it, until he actually stays there.
This film is a tense psychological thriller that will 100% keep you engaged until the very end....Probably. [1408 on IMDB]
Lights Out (2016)
Lights Out revolves around a family haunted by something supernatural that only appears in the dark. This film is great for a younger audience as it plays on the fear of the dark and uses clever lighting and shadows to create the scares.
Very simple but very effective. [Lights Out on IMDB]
Gremlins (1984)
Gremlins was one of the first movies that actually influenced the creation of the PG-13 rated movie rating.
It was actually released with a PG rating, but came under a lot of criticism, and the executive producer of the film, Steven Spielberg, recommended to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) that a new age rating got made, and thus, PG-13 was born 2 months later.
But anyway, it's a classic Christmas movie that everyone should watch, especially at Christmas. [Gremlins on IMDB]
