4 horror movies to look forward to watching in September 2024

In my August horror movies to watch preview, I said I was looking forward to Alien Romulus, Cuckoo, Trap and Stream.

Stream is the only one I haven't seen yet as it did not get released where I am, so I will wait for it to stream.

So what horror movies releasing in September am I looking forward to?

The Substance

Demi Moore's venture into horror looks promising. Releasing on September 20th, it has already got some impressive reviews from those lucky enough to have already watched it.

The movie is about a middle-aged woman longing for her lost youth and the mysterious substance that promises to restore it.

Given the body horror genre and some of the unsettling images we saw in the teaser, it's clear that things will likely go very wrong. [The Substance on IMDB]

Apartment 7A

It will delve deeper into the backstory of the 1968 classic and set in 1965 where an aspiring dancer moves to New York City to chase her dream of becoming a star.

Her plans are derailed though when she suffers a serious injury that almost ends her career when she meets a couple who invite her to stay in their home at the Bramford apartment building. Eventually, Terry moves into apartment 7A. [Apartment 7A on IMDB]

Azrael

Azrael stars Samara Weaving and is due for a limited release also on September 27th.

This one I will probably have to wait for the Shudder release but this survival horror is very much on my radar.

In a world where no one speaks, a devout female-led community hunts down a young woman who has escaped imprisonment.

Hopefully this one is very gritty and relentless. [Azrael on IMDB]

The Demon Disorder

Releasing on Shudder on September 6th, The Demon Disorder has been getting some mixed early reviews, but it one I am looking forward to watching for myself.

Written and directed by SFX veteran Steven Boyle in his feature debut, the movie follows siblings Graham, Jake, and Phillip as their lives are turned upside down when they uncover a family secret after their father's death, leading them into a world of supernatural revenge. Honorable mention to Speak No Evil as I enjoyed the original, but  they are going to butcher the ending, aren't they?
