Here are some of the best horror movie trailers to watch, well, my favorites anyway!
The Exorcist (1973)
The original theatrical trailer for The Exorcist is definitely one of my favorite trailers, it's simple yet effective, with haunting images and the brilliant soundtrack just delivering some creeping terror without saying much at all.
The trailer was apparently banned from showing in theaters for being too scary.
Scream (1996)
I love the fact the trailer plays up to the star power that was Drew Barrymore at the time, and when you watched the film, that happens, it was brilliant, and the whole intrigue of the film was perfectly done in the trailer, Scream was a film released at the perfect time, what will Scream 7 bring in 2026?
Halloween (1978)
Simple, minimalist and haunting, Halloween is a classic trailer that perfectly captures the atmosphere and suspense of the film while listening to the chilling theme and the screams of fear of people trying to get away from Michael Myers.
Psycho (1960)
Such a unique trailer, it basically features Alfred Hitchcock himself giving everyone a tour of the Bates Motel, as he teases the movie without revealing too much, as he attempts to let your imagination run wild, it's definitely in my top 3 horror films of all time, and Norman Bates is probably my favorite horror character ever.
Oh, and did I mention it's 6 minutes long.
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Creepy narration mixed with some chaotic imagery and a pounding score, this one is a trailer that is full of dread, and become one of the best zombie films of all time.
Jaws
Such a simple trailer, yet very effective as we hear the theme build the anticipation with ominous shots and teasing narration, and I love that they never actually show the shark fully, and again a lot of it is left to our imagination, Jaws is a classic creature feature horror film.
The Shining (1980)
The original teaser trailer literally just showed blood coming out of an elevator, and it's so hypnotic and simple, I just love it, using just the imagery and sound to unsettle you.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
I remember all the marketing for this film, and it was genius, say what you like about the film (And I still like it), everything about the marketing so expertly done, including the trailer.
It all felt very real, especially at the time, and the disturbing trailer just added to the intrigue, and helped make The Blair Witch Project one of the most successful films of all time.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
This trailer just feels so raw with the flashing images, grainy footage and the sound of the chainsaw, as if you was watching real life events.
This one is one of the most unsettling trailers ever, expertly done.
Hereditary (2018)
If you find this film boring, you can move on now.
I love Hereditary, and I think it is psychological horror done brilliantly, and the trailer really builds the dread with the music and imagery as the film escalates from family drama to nightmare fuel.
